Expeditions: Samurai Classes

Expeditions: Samurai offers four classes for Captain Flynn. Exact ability names will crystallize in Early Access patch notes, but the player decision is already available: which pillar do you want your captain to embody when dialogue and combat both knock?

How to choose

Pick the class that matches the missions you refuse to skip. If you never want to hand stealth to Antje alone, lean toward a quiet captain fantasy. If you want every warlord scene to have teeth, lean speech. If you love doorway heroics, lean steel. Then hire opposites. The Captain Flynn page personalizes this; Character Creation walks the setup flow.

Pairing classes with companions

Classes are incomplete without the eight-companion ecosystem. A blunt instrument captain needs Étienne or Antje more, not less. Use Companions, Tier List, and the Party Planner.

Classes versus builds

Class is the trunk; Builds are the branches. Do not chase a viral skill screenshot before you have finished a stealth tutorial and a diplomatic failure.

Co-op class etiquette

Twins should not mirror identical kits unless you enjoy redundant failure. Diversify, then share loot philosophies via How to Co-op.

Return here after your first five hours and honestly ask whether your class still matches your choices. Respecs—if available—exist for that moment.

Translating four classes into pillars

Map each class to a primary pillar and a secondary pillar. Primary is what you do under stress; secondary is what you can fake with companions. Write the map down. If two classes share the same map in your head, you do not understand them yet—revisit trailers and Character Creation.

Party compensation table

Speech hole → Étienne. Lock hole → Antje. Door hole → Johan or Tora-Hime. Captain already covers a hole → diversify. The Party Planner exists to catch duplicates.

Mid-campaign identity crisis

If you hate your class at hour ten, check whether you hate the class or your refusal to use stealth. Many “weak class” feelings are pillar neglect. Audit with How to Stealth and Combat before you reroll.

Class choice interviews

Ask yourself: What do I do when a plan fails? If you answer “talk,” pick a speech-forward class fantasy. If you answer “vanish,” pick quiet. If you answer “hold the door,” pick steel. Then hire companions who answer the other questions. That interview takes one minute and prevents twenty hours of mild dissatisfaction. Continue into Captain Flynn for story framing.

Page takeaway

Lock a class fantasy here, then stress-test it on one stealth contract and one speech-heavy hall before you commit a long save.
